Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, NOV. 10. The Chief Minister of Pondicherry, N. Rangasamy, has said the recent rains had damaged 6,000 hectares of paddy in Karaikal. Returningfrom a visit to the rain-hit areas in Karaikal, Mr. Rangasamy said 400 huts had been destroyed in the floods. Mr. Rangasamy said the heavy downpour had a brighter side -- all irrigation tanks had filled up and the sub-soil water recharged. The water situation was now as good as it was 30 years ago, he said.
