PONDICHERRY, NOV. 10. The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, has called upon workers and trade unions in the Union Territory to work with the managements on a give and take basis to attract more entrepreneurs. Declaring open the first vocational training centre sponsored by the Labour Department for physically-challenged candidates here today, Mr. Rangasamy said the Government was keen on luring more entrepreneurs by providing the necessary infrastructure. The Chief Minister said the Government was seized of the plight of the physically-challenged, and was working to improve conditions for them. Persons with a 40 per cent physical disability would be paid a monthly pension of Rs. 400 and given 10 kg of free rice every month. The 20 candidates enrolled in the vocational training centre for physically challenged persons would be paid a monthly stipend of Rs. 1,000 each while being trained as data entry operators in a year-long course. The Health and Labour Minister, E. Valsaraj, said a vocational rehabilitation centre for the disabled and a centre for training in marine technology to benefit fishermen would be started soon by the Labour Department.
