KOLLAM, NOV. 10. The Kollam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed the Kerala State Housing Board (KSHB) to pay a compensation of Rs. 1.5 lakhs with nine per cent interest to a person who had bought from the Board a plot of land that was not fit for constructing a house. The Forum comprising the retried District Judge, Raveendran, as president and Divakaran and Ajimol as members also gave the verdict that in addition to the compensation, the KSHB should pay the petitioner, K.N.P. Kurup, Rs. 10,000 for damages and Rs. 1000 as costs. The plot in question forms part of the journalists' colony at Kadappakada here. In the petition filed by Mr. Kurup, it was pointed out that the Board, on the basis of a soil test report, was aware that the plot had to be properly developed before constructing a house. The report was not revealed to the purchasers of the plot. Several houses constructed on the plots at the same area were later found going down. It created panic among the new owners and some of them never stayed in these houses.
