Letters to the Editor
Sir, The growing intolerance among our youth, coupled with their inability to adjust with the elderly, is one of the prime reasons for the rise in the number of old age homes. However, the concept cannot be dismissed altogether. The residents of these homes can draw consolation from the fact that there are more like them.
Shadaan Alam,
Sir, Film director Balu Mahendra in his film, Santhiya Ragam, shows a man who has lost his wife voluntarily going to an old age home leaving his married son. When the son and daughter-in-law persuade him to go home with them, he says he has no enmity with them. He explains that he is fully satisfied with the new community of people of his age who can help one another and that he is well settled in his new home.
