THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, NOV. 10. The Rajya Sabha, MP, and member of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee on Civil Aviation, N. K. Premachandran, has said that he would raise at the next meeting of the committee, slated for November 18, the violent incidents that had taken place at the Karipur airport on November 1. Mr. Premachandran told a news conference here today that he had already written to the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, and the Civil Aviation Minister, Praful Patel, seeking legal action under provisions of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Safety of Civil Aviation Act against the IUML cadres who had taken over control of the airport, disrupted its normal functioning and raised a serious threat to the safety of the airport. Action should also be taken against IUML leaders who had instigated their workers to indulge in such unlawful actions. The offences committed by the IUML workers were punishable under Sections 3 A (1) and 3 A (2) of the Act, he pointed out. The RSP leader said hoisting of the IUML flag atop the airport terminal in place of the national flag was not only a security threat, but also an anti-national act. The IUML workers had also caused inconvenience to passengers by raising a stage within the airport premises and blocking all routes to the airport. Around 50 passengers had missed flights to various destinations on account of the activities of IUML workers, he added.
