For the cause of disabled

NEW DELHI NOV. 10. The Confederation of Indian Industry (Northern Region) along with social organisation Brotherhood and the American Center organised the screening of Oscar winning film on disability -- Forrest Gump -- as part of its attempts to remove the stigma attached to disability, in the Capital this past week. Eminent artist and architect Satish Gujral, who inaugurated the event, said the corporate sector should facilitate an environment for the benefit of the disabled.

Speaking on the occasion, the CII (Northern region) chairman, Rakesh Mittal, said a strategy to give equal opportunity and access to the disable should be framed. It should also have focus on suitable employment and entrepreneurship opportunities, accessibility, equipment and accessories suited to the needs of the disabled.

Annual day celebrated

NEW DELHI NOV. 10. Mount Carmel School, Dwarka, celebrated its Annual Day on Tuesday by hosting a musical drama festival -- `Oh Jonah' -- in support of the Mount Carmel Shiksha Kendra Project for underprivileged children. Students from Classes I to IV participated in the musical meant to further a sense of responsibility and an acceptance for all kinds of faiths. The Union Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Oscar Fernandes, was the chief guest at the function.

As part of the Shiksha Kendra Project that began in 1989, the school sponsors education, transport, uniforms and mid-day meals of 252 children from nursery to Class IV belonging to slums near Nehru Place.

BPCL Diwali initiative

NEW DELHI NOV. 10. The Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) has launched an initiative called "BPCL Deepanjali" in its 22 retail outlets across Delhi and the satellite towns. The initiative, launched on Tuesday, intends to bring out the diverse ways of celebrating festivals across India by decking up retail outlets depicting the four States of Punjab, Rajasthan, Kerala and West Bengal through their folk music, attire, handicrafts and monuments.

According to the company's General Manager (Retail -- North), S.P. Mathur, it was an attempt to catalogue India's culture and give one more reason to customers to visit them. Punjabi pop singer, Mika, will also perform at these outlets.

School celebrates Diwali

NEW DELHI NOV. 10. Keeping in tune with the festive season, DPS Indirapuram organised a special assembly yesterday to celebrate Diwali and Children's Day.

The programme started with a song, "Aai Diwali", by the school choir. Thereafter to the surprise of the children and their parents, the teachers performed a medley. It was a delight for the students to watch their teachers dress and perform like their favourite stars. The teachers presented a song and a dance for the children, which was greatly appreciated by the parents as well.

The Principal, Meeta Rai, was happy to see smiles on the faces of the children and wished all the members of DPS Indirapuram a safe and happy Diwali.

Science fiesta organised

NEW DELHI NOV. 10. A four-day science fiesta -- Prism -- was organised at Bhatnagar International School in Vasant Kunj from November 1. The School director, Mamta V Bhatnagar, inaugurated the exhibition and took a keen interest in the models displayed. A model prepared by Vikram Kapoor and Vini Vohra on "Recent Trends in Science and Technology" was selected for the State-level exhibition. Apart from the exhibition, various competitions like debates, science fiction writing contest and group discussion and an interesting audio-visual presentation were also part of the fiesta.
