NEW DELHI, NOV. 10. An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) posted with the Public Grievance Cell of the North Delhi police was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000 from a Sub-Inspector for issuing a licence for sale of fire crackers. The CBI received a complaint from the Sub-Inspector that ACP Hawa Singh was demanding Rs. 5,000 to grant him a licence to set up a cracker shop on the occasion of Diwali. Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and arrested ACP Singh while he was allegedly taking bribe from the Sub-Inspector. Subsequently, the CBI raided his residence and seized Rs. 9.5 lakhs in cash. Documents revealing that he had Rs. 5 lakhs in his bank account and those pertaining to three immobile property were also seized along with jewellery worth Rs. 2 lakhs. Singh had joined the Delhi police as a Sub-Inspector in 1969. He was produced in a court today, which remanded him to one day of police custody for questioning.
