dated November 13, 1954: A curb on drill

Indian Army doctors have put a curb on the enthusiastic drill sergeant. They have pronounced that the habit of the Jawan of stamping the foot with a jerk while saluting was injurious to health in the long run as it directly affected the brain through the spinal cord. With this medical verdict before them, senior officers at the Army Headquarters have decided that the practice does not add to smartness either and have issued orders that it be stopped.
