By Our Staff Reporter
KURNOOL, NOV. 12. For the inmates of Child Labour Rehabilitation Centre at Vengannabavi on the outskirts of Kurnool city, this was a Deepavali to remember. NCC cadets presented new dresses to the 120 children in the centre. The NCC Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Vijayakumar Seth and philanthropists, Chandrakanth Shah and Dr. Rajasekhar distributed the clothes at a function on Thursday. The NCC had organised visits to old-age homes and orphanages this year. The NCC cadets of Government Degree College for Men, led by the Associate Officer, Abdul Khader, moved by the plight of the children in orphanages planned to present clothes to the inmates -- 57 girls and 63 boys. The cadets worked for 15 days collecting the dress materials from cloth merchants. Many shops chipped in with clothes worth Rs. 30,000. Dr. Rajasekhar, a Lions Club member, met the tailoring cost of Rs. 3,600. The donors, who were present at the function, admitted that they doubted the cadets' "sincerity" at firstbut added that they did not mind donating for genuine efforts like this.
