Pune, VTU in quarterfinals

KARAIKUDI, NOV. 12. Defending champion Pune and VTU, Belgaum, qualified for the quarterfinals, registering two wins each in Group A, in the women's section of the All-India inter-university table tennis championships at AUCPE indoor stadium here on Friday.

In the men's section, South Zone champion, Madras and North Zone champion, Delhi enhanced their chances of qualifying for the quarterfinals from Group A and Group B respectively. Both teams registered two wins apiece.

The results (Men): Group A: Madras bt Guru Nanak Dev, Amritsar 3-0; Punjab bt Dr B. R. Ambedkar, Agra 3-0; Madras bt Dr. B. R. Ambedkar 3-0. Group B: Delhi bt Kerala 3-1; N.T.R, Vijayawada bt Nagpur 3-1; Delhi bt Nagpur 3-0. Group C: Bhavanagar w/o North Bengal, Darjeeling, Jadhavapur bt Burdhwan 3-2.

Women: Group A: Pune bt Mysore 3-0; V.T.U, Belgaum (S.Z) bt Pandit Ravisankar, Chattisgarh 3-0; Pune bt Pandit Ravisankar 3-0; V.T.U. Belgaum bt Mysore 3-1. Group B: Madras bt Sourashtra 3-0; Punjab bt GNDU 3-0. Group C: Burdhwan bt Mithila 3-0; Bhavanagar bt Ngpur 3-0. Group D: Kerala bt Calcutta 3-2. — Our Correspondent
