MANGALORE, NOV. 12. Bharati Tourism Development Cooperative Ltd., a multi-State cooperative society being floated to promote tourism in Goa, Karnataka and Kerala, based in Panjim in Goa, will open its branch at Sahakari Mahal on Mission Street here. Ramachandra Bhat, director of the cooperative's State unit, told presspersons here on Friday, that the cooperative aimed at catering to domestic middle-class tourists. It had four board members each from the three States. Raviraja Hegde from Udupi, Vishwanath C. Hiremath from Hospet and M.J. Dinesh from Mudigere and he were the members from Karnataka. Mr. Bhat said the cooperative would promote adventure tourism in the region. "Places such as Kumara Parvata near Subrahmanya, Kotachadri near Kollur, St. Mary's Island and Kemmannugundi are recognised tourist spots, and the BTDC has realised the potential for trekking, rafting, boating and other eco-adventure activities in these areas,'' he said. According to him, the cooperative will operate tours to and from Kerala, Karnataka and Goa, promote farm, spiritual and eco-tourism, set up information centres at major tourist spots and collaborate with resorts, hotels, travel agents and tour operators. The Chief Minister of Goa, Manohar Parrikar, will inaugurate the office of the cooperative at Panjim on Sunday. Shripad Y. Naik, MP from north Goa, will inaugurate the cooperative. L.N. Kudoor, president of Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd. (CAMPCO), will be among the chief guests.
