TIRUCHI, NOV.12. The need to take efforts to eliminate corruption and malpractices was underlined by the Superintendent of Police (Railways), Tiruchi, A.G. Mourya. Speaking at a function organised to mark `Vigilance Awareness Week' at the Central Workshop, Golden Rock, he said that India lagged far behind in the area of combating corruption while countries like Finland had fought the menace effectively. Elimination of corruption along with effective utilisation of rich resources available in the country would make India a super power in the world. The Chief Workshop Engineer, N.S. Kasthurirangan, traced several instances of corrupt practices. The Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer, M.A. Inbarasu, said the railways was facing stiff competition from the road sector. The employees had risen to the situation. The Chief Workshop Manager, G.R.K. Raju, pointed out selfishness was the root cause of corruption. Administrators and officials should strive for long-term benefits of the country. Immediate steps should be taken to motivate youths to abolish corruption from the society, he said. The Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer, V. Ramachandran, spoke.
