Two elephants found dead near Hunsur

By Our Staff Correspondent

MYSORE, NOV. 12. Two elephants, which ventured out of the Nagarahole National Park, met with a tragic end near Kalahanahalli in Hunsur taluk on Thursday. Their electrocution has not been ruled out. Officials of the Forest Department suspect that the elephants may have received severe shocks from an illegal electric fence and died when retreating as there was no such fence where they were found dead. The other conjecture is that the elephants may have tripped and fallen down a steep embankment where they were found dead. The Deputy Conservator of Forests (Territorial), P. Shankar, told The Hindu that elephants would suffer a heart attack if they fell given the heavy weight of their body.
