dated November 15, 1954: Naguib dismissed

Egyptian President Mohammed Naguib was removed from office on November 14 after allegations that he was connected with a plot by the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood to overthrow the regime of Lieutenant-Colonel Gamel Abdel Nasser. A spokesman for Colonel Nasser said his removal — for the second time — became "imperative" following information received that he was to have headed a new Government after a coup by the Brotherhood.
