The high-profile cases

Vithura sex racket case: Trial as mandated by the Supreme Court yet to begin. The prime accused has been arrested. The second accused, Ajitha Begum, committed suicide. Forty-two of the accused named by the girl have been identified.

Suryanelly case: The only major case to have been pursued to a logical conclusion. A special court convicted 35 of the accused and let off four. Appeals filed by the accused pending disposal.

Thoppumpadi case: None of the accused arrested. Investigation grounded midway following change of officers. Age of the victim at the time of the offence caught in hair-splitting and alleged attempts to cloud the facts. Girl's mother wants the case referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Kozhikode ice-cream parlour case: The prime witness, Rejina, first came out accusing the Industries Minister, P. K. Kunhalikutty, of involvement, but has since retracted her allegations. The Government has decided to get the Kerala High Court stay on the related case vacated and sought a CBI probe.

Kothamangalam case: The case remains closed with the alleged victim changing her deposition under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
