CUDDAPAH, NOV. 14. The services of former Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, for strengthening the cooperative movement is unparalleled, the Cuddapah MLA, Md. Ahmedullah, said on Sunday. He launched the 51st Cooperative Week celebrations at the District Cooperative Central Bank here by hoisting cooperative flag. Stating that farmers were securing substantial loans through cooperative institutions, he said the Cuddapah Cooperative Sugars Limited would be revived next year. The Deputy General Manager of DCCB, M. Nagaraju, who presided said farmers were immensely benefited by the cooperative sector. The District Cooperative Officer, T. Pullaiah, said the cooperative movement in the country was century-old. Cooperative bodies were leading dairy, poultry, sugar and fertiliser manufacturers, he said. The Assistant Cooperative Registrar, B. Gurrappa, said Government's interference in the cooperative sector came down in the changing economy and cooperative members given due prominence. The Cuddapah Cooperative House-Building Society president, P.V. Sesha Reddy, lamented that the cooperative sector which once flourished, was now in a crisis and sought concerted efforts to sustain the cooperative movement. The HOUSEFED Regional Manager, B. Somi Naik, said IFFCO and Kribhco units were forerunners in the country. The Cuddapah Cooperative Educational Officer, N. Subramanyam, proposed vote of thanks. The Cuddapah divisional cooperative officer, S. Balaswamy, also spoke. KURNOOL: A rally was organised here to commemorate the completion of 100 years of cooperative movement. The Joint Collector, Ramsankar Naik, the District Cooperative Officer, Ramadevi, the Deputy General Manager of Cooperative Bank, Nirmala and others were participated. Ms. Ramadevi said the cooperative bank was meeting 40 per cent credit requirements of farmers in the district. Besides providing credit, the bank distributed fertilisers and offered storage facility. ANANTAPUR: All political parties and officials concerned should take the responsibility to the present state of financial disarray in the cooperative banks, the Anantapur MP, A. Venkatarami Reddy, said. He urged the Government to bring in necessary amendments to the laws to make the cooperative movement efficient. Speaking after inaugurating the cooperative weekly celebrations he stated that the cooperative banks had helped in the progress of rural areas by providing large-scale credit to the farmers earlier. But, now the cooperative banks were in financial disarray and were able to make only book adjustments in the name of new loans. The district Collector, Y.V. Anuradha, the District Cooperative Officer, M. Surender, the General Manager of DCCB, Syed Basha, and others participated. A cooperative mela was also organised to mark the centenary celebrations of the cooperative movement in the country.
