BELGAUM, NOV. 14. "Children's Film Festival 2004" began here on Sunday with prominent speakers urging film-makers to produce quality films.
Concern
Expressing concern over the falling standards of Indian films, Suresh Angadi M.P. said, by and large, Indian films had caused extensive damage to culture and to the psyche of the youth. The films produced in the past three decades had their devastating impact on the cultural behaviour of the community. The festival is being organised by the district administration, Children's Film Society of India, Chennai, and the Belgaum District Film Distributors' Association (BDFDA), at Nartaki cinema here.
`Glorifying evils'
Mr. Angadi said Indian films had been glorifying the "evils'' of society such as rape, murder and violence. The negative roles by heroes and heroines were having a negative impact on the youth,he said. Mr. Angadi appealed to film-makers, storywriters, lyricists, producers and directors to ensure that films reflected positive aspects of society. Films should inculcate good cultural values and patriotic sentiments in the youth, he said. Abhay Patil, MLA, said good films would have positive impact on society. It was the duty of the film-makers to produce films that would help in character building.
