ANANTAPUR, NOV. 15. The district executive of the Telugu Desam Party has called upon partymen to take the failures of the Congress Government to the people and win back their confidence. There are problems galore that need to be explained to the people, they said. At a meeting held here today the party leaders claimed that several sections of society were already repenting that they brought the Congress to power. Drinking water and wage employment were major problems all over the district, they said. The district president, V. Hanumantharaya Chowdary, the former Minister, N. Kistappa, the former MPs, B.K. Parthasarathi and K. Srinivasulu, the former legislators -- R. Sainath Goud, P. Raghunatha Reddy and P. Shamanthakamani -- the in charge Chairperson of Zilla Parishad, C. Obi Reddy, the former ZP chairperson, K.C. Narayana, and others spoke at the executive committee meeting. They accused the Government of biding time by blaming the TDP for all problems. Problems of non-payment of input subsidy to farmers who had suffered crop loss during 2003 kharif season and lack of wage works were being attributed to the TDP, they alleged.
Price hike
The Congress had deceived farmers by hiking diesel and PVC pipes' prices. The APMIP had come to a standstill due to the hike of PVC pipe rates and the appointed companies' inability to supply to material at the old rates, the TDP leaders said. Women were also burdened by the steep hike in LPG price and financial assistance to women SHGs at 25 paise interest rate had become inconsequential before burden in other forms, the TDP leaders noted.
Ex gratia to victims
Later, the TDP leaders distributed demand drafts worth Rs. 11.39 lakhs among the families of 14 TDP leaders and activists killed or injured in alleged attacks by Congress rivals, as promised by the party president. Some financial help was also given to three dwarfs, as promised at the party's praja sadassu held here just before elections. Those who received the party's ex gratia today included the family members of the slain TDP leaders -- the MPP of Kanaganapalli, B. Prabhakar, the ZPTC member of Somandepalli, K. Aswarthanarayana, the municipal councillor, Pavurala Krishna.
