ADILABAD, NOV. 15. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday criticised the six-month rule of the Rajasekhara Reddy Government. The party's State president, N. Indrasena Reddy, alleged that the Government had failed on all fronts, especially in providing succour to beleaguered farmers. Addressing the BJP's Adilabad (West) district executive committee meeting here, he said said during the last six months 1,800 farmers had committed suicide. This was a telling commentary on the "failure'' of the Congress Government in keeping its election promises, he said.
`Raw deal to ryots'
Listing a "plethora of failures,'' the BJP president said the Government failed to curb the supply of spurious seed to farmers. Similarly, it failed to provide the much-needed subsidies to the agriculture sector. Mr. Indrasena Reddy said the programme for giving free power to farmers and poor people had run into rough weather. Instead of supplying free power, the Government was "harassing'' farmers in the name of snapping illegal power connections, he said. Contrary to its election promise of supply of power for 12 hours to agriculture sector, the Government was not giving even a seven-hour supply, he added. He alleged that unemployment was mounting as the Government went on abolishing the existing contract posts.
Talks with naxals
Later, addressing a press conference, Mr. Indrasena Reddy said the Government lacked clarity on many issues being discussed at the peace talks with naxalite groups. He said the Government ought to have clarity vis-a-vis the separate Telangana issue, loans from the World Bank and the laying down of arms by naxals under Clause (7) of the talks agenda.
Challenge to TRS
Later, addressing a press conference at Armoor in Nizamabad district, Mr. Indrasena Reddy asked the TRS to come out of the Cabinet and build public opinion in support of its demand if it was sincere about achieving its objective. He accused the TRS and the Congress of deceiving people on Telangana issue. The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh's observations on Telangana and the need for formation of the second State Reorganisation Commission vindicated his charge, he said. The Congress earlier too `dodged' the formation of smaller States by `hoodwinking' people, while the TRS, which raised a hue and cry over the GO No. 610, kept quiet after joining the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's Cabinet, he alleged. Likening the TRS chief, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, to the former Chief Minister, Marri Chenna Reddy, as far as the Telangana issue was concerned, the BJP president said Mr. Rao would also merge his party with the Congress after sometime. He appealed to people to make a grand success the proposed State bandh on November 30.
