Temple idol missing

KASARAGOD,
NOV. 15.
The main idol of the Poonkavanam Karpooreswara Temple near Hosdurg near here was found missing when the temple opened this morning.
Police said the theft must have occurred early this morning since workers engaged in the renovation of the temple were present on the temple premises till midnight.
The thieves entered the temple through the back door. They then entered the sanctum sanctorum by breaking open its door, the police said.
Money stolen
The thieves also broke open two `bhandarams' at the temple and stole the money inside, police sources added.
The idol of Lord Siva, made of `panchaloham', is said to be 200 years old. The one-and-a-half feet idol weighs eight kg and is said to be worth a few lakhs.
