By Our Staff Reporter

SABARIMALA, NOV. 15. The out-going Melsanthi, Gosala Vishnu Vasudevan, opened the sanctum sanctorum of the Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple this morning amidst loud chants of Ayyappa Saranamantras by the devotees.

The pooja will begin with Ganapathi Homam tomorrow morning, the first day in the Malayalam month of Vrischikom.

Hundreds of devotees from different parts of South India have been camping at Sannidhanam since the past two days for the holy darsan.

The installation of the new Melsanthi, V. Muraleedharan Namboodiri, was held at the temple Sopanam today. The Tantri, Kantaru Mohanaru, performed the Kalasabhishekom on the new Melsanthi before leading him to the sanctum sanctorum. The initiation of the `Moolamantra' of Lord Ayyappa to the new Melsanthi was held at the Sreekovil, later.

The out-going Melsanthi handed over the keys of the Sreekovil to the Devaswom authorities before he climbed down the Holy Pathinettampady after closing the temple with the sacred lullaby of Harivarasanam later in the evening.

The new Melsanthi will perform the poojas from tomorrow.

The installation of the new Malikappuram Melsanthi, Rajiv V. Namboodiri, was also held in the evening.
