Renounce the title

Sir, — That the Kanchi Mutt is in the news for the wrong reasons is painful. Sri Jayendra Saraswathi should relinquish his post.

V. Ravisankar,
Chennai

Sir, — The Acharya should renounce his title to save the holiness and divinity of the Mutt. At the same time, his personal behaviour should not become a reason for tarnishing the name of the Mutt and all that it stands for.

T. Rangaswamy,
Madurai, T.N.

* * *

Sir, — The Acharya has given room for non-believers to propagate against the Mutt. It is time he relinquished his post.

T. Anbumani,
Tiruchi, T.N.

* * *

Sir, — The Mutt should not spend money for defending the Acharya. If someone gets a court order restraining the Mutt from funding the case, it will further affect the already-shattered image of the institution.

R. Sadagopan,
Chennai

* * *

Sir, — The Acharya's arrest, irrespective of whether he is involved in the murder or not, has made suspect the credibility of religious leaders.

K. Srinivasan,
Chennai

* * *

Sir, — Sri Jayendra Saraswathi should declare his readiness to step down and face charges legally instead of enquiring about the mood of the people outside.

M. Thrivikraman,
Karaikudi, T.N.

* * *

Sir, — In the days of the Paramacharya, the Kanchi Mutt was a real source of solace and strength to the devotees. Of late, it was sought to be converted into an institution straying from its designed purpose.

V.V. Jayaraman,
Chennai

* * *

Sir, — The wound Jayendra Saraswathi has inflicted on the devotees of the Paramacharya will take ages to heal.

P.G. Ravikumar,
Lagos, Nigeria

* * *

Sir, — The adherence of the followers of the Kanchi Mutt is to the Mutt per se. The present status of Sri Jayendra Saraswathi should not serve to belittle the importance of the Mutt.

R. Nagarajan,
Chennai
