Fast-track courts to get public prosecutors soon

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, NOV. 16. The State Government on Tuesday informed the Karnataka High Court that it would appoint public prosecutors within six weeks in 44 fast-track courts. There were 93 such courts in the State. The Government made this submission after the High Court took it to task on November 8 for delaying the appointment of a public prosecutor in the Bidar fast-track court. It also directed the Government to submit an explanation at the next hearing. The judge of the Bidar fast-track court, on October 15, wrote to the Registrar-General of the High Court expressing his inability to complete trials within the stipulated time as the prosecutor had not been appointed. The court had taken cognisance of the letter and directed the Government to fill vacancies. A Division Bench comprising S.R. Bannurmath and A.C. Kabbin, judges, directed the Government to file a status report on December 16.

Order to BMP

A Division Bench comprising the acting Chief Justice, S.R. Nayak, and H.N. Nagamohandas on Tuesday ordered the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) to file a counter in two weeks on the status of Bangalore roads. The court passed this order on a petition by the former MLA K.N. Subba Reddy seeking a direction to the civic body to fill potholes on all roads in the city. The petitioner also sought an inquiry into the money spent on roadworks.

Notice

A Division Bench comprising the acting Chief Justice, S.R. Nayak, and Justice H.N. Nagamohandas on Tuesday ordered issue of notice to the State Government, the Bangalore Development Authority, the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike and the Karnataka State Slum Clearance Board on a petition by A. Krishnappa and others seeking the shifting of the Ragi Gudda slum at the junction of 8th Main and 9th Cross in J.P. Nagar Phase 2. The petitioner said the authorities had not taken action on shifting the slum.
