Parcel not delivered
On April 27, 2004, upon the advice of the Executive, Customer Care, India Today, New Delhi, I had sent a defective telephone instrument by Registered Parcel from R.S. Puram Post Office. Normally, the parcel should reach the destination in a maximum time of one week, but unfortunately till date it has not reached. Umpteen number of personal visits, complaints and representations have not yielded the desired result. The Postal Department should trace my parcel and admit the dereliction of duty/service on its part. L. Rikhabchand Jain, Coimbatore.
Rename trains
The train running between Coimbatore and Chennai (Nos. 2679/2680) can be renamed Tirupur Kumaran Express. The one running between Bangalore and Coimbatore (Nos. 2677/2678) can be called Visweswarayya Express. S. Venkatasubbu, Coimbatore.
Work half done
The work began at one end of the area and after completing a portion, all the men and machines vanished. Three important roads were left out. These roads are still in the primitive state. I would like to draw the attention of the District Collector to the half-done work, which has put the people to much inconvenience in this rainy season. L.A. Subramaniam, Coimbatore.
Restore holiday
It is not only a day of prayer and thanksgiving for the Christian community but also to the people at large irrespective of caste, creed or religion. Dominic David, Coimbatore.
Empty first-aid box in bus
The conductor was all along standing near me. I asked him to give a piece of cotton to wipe the wound and apply tincture on it. But he told me there was nothing in the first-aid box. Will the transport authorities act? G.E.M. Manoharan, Coimbatore.
Increase seats
But 10 seats are quite insufficient for a taluk headquarters bus stand. The authorities should arrange for at least 50 seats here immediately. A letterbox and one filter for drinking water too may be provided. With rain for more than nine months in a year, the bus shelter can have asbestos roofing. Chemmanam Mathew, The Nilgiris.
Provide streetlight
The Vellakinar Panchayat as well as the TNEB authorities are reluctant to provide streetlight in this area even after several requests. Chain snatching as well as poisonous snakes are common in this area, which pose threat to the passengers during night. Further, the damaged road in this area has been causing several two-wheeler accidents. It is time the Local Administrative Authorities initiated immediate action to provide streetlight and repair the damaged road at the bus terminus. S. Shanmugasundaram, Coimbatore.
