NEW DELHI, NOV. 16. The Uttaranchal Chief Minister, N.D. Tiwari, called on the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, here today and urged him to initiate measures to ensure enhanced connectivity between Delhi and the hill State via road, rail and air services. He not only asked for conversion of the Delhi-Dehra Dun and Delhi-Nainital highways into expressways but also sought introduction of regular air services between Delhi and Uttaranchal. Mr. Tiwari asked the Prime Minister to make provision for constructing express highways between Delhi-Dehra Dun and Delhi-Naini Tal under Phase III of the National Highway Development Project. Similarly, regular air services between Delhi-Dehra Dun and Delhi-Pantnagar would not only attract tourists and investors but also make travel easier. The Uttaranchal Chief Minister also urged to expedite construction of Tanakpur-Jauljibi road along Nepal border by getting necessary clearance from the Ministry of Defence. He also highlighted the need for adding more coaches to the Delhi-Dehra Dun Janshatabdi Express and also introduce a regular train between Dehru Dun and Kathgodam to provide easy and quick linkages between Garhwal and Kumaon regions. Mr. Tiwari also discussed with the Prime Minister the plan outlay of Rs.1,911 crores for the current financial year and urged to direct the Planning Commission to issue official communication of the same at the earliest. He also stressed upon the need to establish a Central University in the State and a Himalayan Regional Development Authority besides granting financial assistance worth Rs.127.17 crores for a super-speciality centre at the Uttaranchal Forest Hospital Trust Medical College.
