Maoists' last public meeting in State?

HYDERABAD, NOV. 16. The CPI(Maoist) today indicated that Peerzadiguda meeting here would be last public meeting to be organised by the party in view of the alleged repression against it by the Government.

The indication was given by the Maoist leader, Ganganna. He said the merger of the People's War with the Maoist Communist Centre of India (MCCI) which led to the birth of the CPI(Maoist) would ideologically strengthen the movement. The party would emerge as an alternative political force and this was a matter of concern for the ruling party, he said.

Another leader, Varavara Rao, said the seeds for the merger were sown at a conference of the Marxist-Leninist parties in March 2000. The unity moves were intensified in the last one-and-a- half years. G. Kalyan Rao, in his speech, said Maoists had a specific task of cracking down on imperialism, bureaucratic bourgeois and landlords. The party had its task cut out to fight against autocratic rule, he said.
