HYDERABAD, NOV. 16. The MP, N. Janardhana Reddy, has suggested location of a liquid natural gas (LNG) terminal at Krishnapatnam Port, which would be useful in reviving the IFFCO fertilizer plant and the Krishnapatnam power plant that has been kept in abeyance. In a statement issued here on Monday, Mr. Reddy said he had submitted a representation to the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, here, on November 14, listing the demand. Dr. Singh has assured to `do the needful', he said. The MP said that location of a fertilizer plant in Nellore district based on liquid natural gas would be more optimal and beneficial to the agricultural economy of both Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. He said the naphtha-based
Fertilizer plant
IFFCO plant in Nellore district was proposed during the regime of P.V. Narasimha Rao and all clearances had been accorded. An area of 2,000 acres was also acquired in Rajupalem but the project was considered unviable due to steep increase in naphtha prices. Mr. Reddy urged Dr. Singh to direct officials of the Fertilizer Ministry to revive the proposal. This would accelerate the process of establishing the LNG terminal at Krishnapatnam Port.
Power project
He wanted the Power Ministry to take up a 2,000 MW power project at Krishnapatnam for which 2,000 acres had already been acquired. These two projects had been pending for the last one decade due to non-availability of fuel. The LNG terminal at Krishnapatnam could be a viable fuel for the power plant, he said.
