Prime land allotted to TRS

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, NOV. 16. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi will get one acre of Government land in the posh Banjara Hills area in the City for setting up its State party office.

A decision to this effect was taken by the Cabinet at its meeting today. The land will be alienated at a throwaway price of Rs. 100 a square yard, working out to Rs. 4.8 lakhs for the 4,800 sq yards plot located on Road No 12 of Banjara Hills.

The Information and Public Relations Minister, Mohd. Ali Shabir, said this decision was in line with the allotment made to other parties in tune with GO No 826.

At a briefing, he said that the Government rate for land in the area was Rs. 5,000 a sq yard though the market rate was much higher. The TRS, he said, had submitted the application seeking land allotment citing its status as "recognised party" accorded by the Election Commission.

The Telugu Desam, the CPI(M) and, more recently, the BJP secured Government lands for their party offices at Jubilee Hills, Bagh Lingampalli and Nampally respectively in the city.

Meanwhile, the TRS is planning to invite MPs belonging to political parties which are votaries of smaller States for the ground-breaking ceremony to be held soon. The function will be followed by a public meeting.
