HYDERABAD, NOV.16. The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday said the Rajasekahara Reddy Government's six-month rule was marked by " inefficiency, corruption, lack of clarity and transparency in all sectors.'' Releasing an open letter written to Dr. Reddy, the BJP secretary, B. Dattatreya, at a press conference here, charged the ruling party with going back on all its promises, including free power.
`Ryots let down'
He alleged that welfare programmes were given a go-by by the Government which was "against farmers, Dalits, women, minorities and BCs." He lashed out at the administration for failing to arrest farmers' suicide and said the relief was provided to only 385 families while 1,710 ryots had ended their lives. It also failed in ensuring remunerative prices for cotton, tomato, onion and chillies and in preventing sale of spurious seed/pesticides. Mr. Dattatreya faulted the Government for going back on its offer for an "open debate" on irrigation projects' tenders. It remained "indifferent'' to the Opposition charge that money had " changed hands" in the process, he maintained. He reminded the Dr. Reddy of his promise to provide "good governance" and charged that the Secretariat had become a "free market" and the Ministers' peshis were filled with "power brokers." The BJP leader criticised the frequent transfers of IAS and IPS officers as if "they were MROs and SIs." Referring to the alleged differences between the Congress and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, he claimed that Dr. Reddy was silent on the Cabinet's collective responsibility in the context of the TRS Ministers choosing to protest on State Formation Day. On talks with naxalites, he criticised the Chief Minister and Ministers for making "contradictory statements'' and wondered in which direction the talks were headed.
