Kuvempu centenary valedictory on Friday

MADIKERI, NOV. 16. The valedictory of the Kuvempu birth centenary celebrations and the Rajyotsava celebrations would be held by the Madikeri Kannada Sahitya Parishat at Cauvery Kalakshetra here on November 19, the newly-elected president of the Kodagu district Kannada Sahitya Parishat, T.P. Ramesh, said here on Tuesday.

Mr. Ramesh, who is the outgoing president of the Madikeri taluk unit of the parishat, told presspersons that the former president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat Ham. Pa. Nagarajaiah would inaugurate the celebrations. D.K. Rajendra, former director, Kuvempu Adhyayana Samste, Manasagangotri, Mysore, would deliver the main address.

Vamana Nandavara, Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy president, would distribute prizes to winners of various competitions in the primary-, high school- and college-level sections. P.L. Budihal, Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat, would be the chief guest.

Mr. Ramesh said the Central Sahitya Academy award-winner, Abdul Rashid, who hailed from Sunticoppa in Kodagu, would be felicitated on the occasion. Narayana Gowda, Kannada activist, and B.N. Ravi, a budding poet from Murnad in the district, would be felicitated. He said cultural programmes by the students from schools and colleges, folk dance by the Gowda Mahila Okkuta and light music by Uday Kalavrinda would be featured in the evening.

A grand procession reflecting the glory of Kannada, including "Dollu Kunita" and "Kangeelu Nritya", would be the main attractions in the cultural procession to be taken out in the city at 2 p.m.

On the constitution of the new district body and three taluk bodies, Mr. Ramesh said he would convene a meeting of all members, including non-voting members, in 20 days to elicit their opinion.

Shweta Ravindra, general secretary of the Madikeri parishat, and K.T. Baby Mathew, treasurer, were present.
