KOLLAM, NOV. 16. The 12th State-level Children's Science Congress will be held at Jawahar Bal Bhavan here on November 18 and 19. The theme of the congress will be ``Harness water resources for a better future.'' The event is being organised by the Department of General Education is association with the Union Ministry of Science and Technology and the Department of Science, Technology and Environment. The Director of Public Education, A. Ajith Kumar, will inaugurate the programme at a function to be presided over by the District Collector, B. Sreenivas. The Executive Director of the Centre for Water Resources Development Management, E.J. James, will deliver the keynote address. The congress will be the venue for selection of projects from children to be presented at the National Children's Science Congress to be held at Guwahati from December 27 to 31.
Theme
The aim of the programme is to help students between the ages 10 and 17 to prepare and present papers on various subjects relating to water harness, use and conservation. The projects to be presented for the State-level event had already been selected at the district-level congress held earlier. Students selected from all the 36 education districts in the State will attend the congress. Projects selected for the National Science Congress will be given cash awards. The valedictory function on November 19 will be inaugurated by the Director of the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment, K.R.S. Krishnan, at a function to be presided over by the Kollam District Panchayat president, Aisha Potti.
