MP pleads for unity among elected representatives

By Our Special Correspondent

HUBLI, NOV. 16. Prahlad Joshi, Dharwad North MP, has appealed to all political leaders to join hands in addressing the problems faced by the people.

The occasion was the inauguration of his office here on Monday.

Mr. Joshi converted what ought to have been a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) function into an all-party affair.

Present on the occasion were not only BJP leaders and elected representatives such as Jagadish Shettar, S.I. Chikkangoudar, C.C. Patel, and R.B. Shiriyannavar, all BJP MLAs; S.R. Morey, Minister for Municipal Administration; Jabbar Khan Honnali, Vinay Kulkarni, Congress MLAs; and A.M. Hindasgeri, Veeranna Mathikatti (both Congress), Basavaraj Horatti (Janata Dal - Secular) and Basavaraj Bommai (Janata Dal - United).

The only legislators who did not turn up were H.K. Patil, MLC, and D.R. Patil, MLA, of the Congress.

`Solve problems'

Mr. Joshi made an impassioned plea to leaders to work for solving the problems facing the area.

"As a representative, I do not have the kind of experience you have and it is because of this that I am seeking your cooperation to find a solution to the problems facing the people," he told the leaders who were present on the dais.

Mr. Morey, who presided over the function, promised full cooperation to the MP in implementing development schemes for north Karnataka. Working collectively after fighting the elections was the essence of democracy, he said. "We will work collectively in all development matters, including the early completion of the Hubli-Ankola railway line," Mr. Morey said.

Mr. Bommai lauded Mr. Joshi for his attitude.

Mr. Honnali pleaded that the MP's Local Area Development Scheme funds be given to all constituencies.

Mr. Shettar, Mr. Hindasgeri, Veeranna Mathikatti, and the Deputy Commissioner, Gourav Gupta, spoke.

G.M. Patil, advocate and trustee of the Loka Shikshana Trust (publishers of Samyukta Karnataka Kannada daily) presided over the function.

The Murusavira Math swamiji said that it was a good augury that representatives of all political parties had come together on a single platform.
