CHITRADURGA, NOV. 16. Chandrashekar Patil, president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishath, has called for an impartial evaluation of the role of religious institutions such as maths by considering their contribution to society and social reformation. Releasing a book, Mathagalu Ee Deshakke Shapa (Maths a curse to the nation), written by B.L. Venu, here on Tuesday, Mr. Patil urged people from various fields to put down their experiences on paper. "Our literature will become rich if people from all walks of life start penning their experiences. There should be no bar for the expression of one's experiences whoever he may be," he said. He also said that the "contribution of film-literature to society was in no way inferior to that of literature." But his has not been properly recognised, he rued. "Generalising a personal experience is very dangerous. Some maths or individuals might have been on the wrong side of the law. They might be a curse. But, at the same time, the contribution of maths, especially in organising "Anna Dana" and "Akshara Dana," cannot be ignored," Mr. Patil said. B.L. Venu, author of the book, and K.M. Veeresh, president of the district unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, spoke on the occasion.
