Sonia visits Rae Bareli
RAE BARELI,
NOV. 16.
The Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, today began a two-day tour of her Lok Sabha constituency, Rae Bareli. This is her first visit to Uttar Pradesh after a change of guard in the party's State unit.
The Congress Legislature Party leader, Pramod Tewari, said her visit signified that Uttar Pradesh continued to be at the top of her priority list.
Ms. Gandhi drove straight to the Sareni Assembly segment of the constituency where she met the people and listened to their grievances. Large numbers of people, especially women, had turned out to meet her.
The visit comes soon after Ms. Gandhi appointed Salman Khurshid as the State party chief in the place of Jagdambika Pal. The change of guard is being termed as the beginning of the party's `Operation U.P.'
During her two-day visit, Ms. Gandhi will meet a cross-section of the electorate and also participate in several programmes. .
