V. R. Devadas, accused in the Kiliroor sex racket case being brought out of the Police Club in Kottayam on Tuesday.
KOTTAYAM, NOV. 16. The police have arrested one more person in connection with the Kiliroor sex scandal. V. R. Devadas, who was recently ousted from the BJP, was today arrested when he arrived at the Sri Krishna Swamy Temple, Thiruvarpu for the `Maalayideel' ceremony marking the 41 days of lent for the Sabarimala pilgrimage, the police said. He is the ninth person to be arrested in connection with the sex scandal. Devadas was the secretary of the BJP unit at Thiruvarpu Mandalam and earlier of the Kottayam assembly segment. He was also a witness to the agreement entered between Praveen, the second accused and the victim's father. In fact he was instrumental in taking the victim's father to the police when he found that the second accused was trying to wriggle out of the agreement. According to the police, Devadas was arrested for helping the fifth accused Latha Nair to find a shelter. Latha Nair was harboured by one `Collector' Latheef of Adimali, in Idukki district. He is the seventh accused and has been arrested by the police. Those who have been booked by the police so far include the victim's aunt Omanakutty, Praveen, Kochumon, Manoj, Latha Nair, Prasanth, Latheef and Soman. Devadas was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court III and remanded to judicial custody till November 29.
