Kurnool
By Our Staff Reporter
KURNOOL, NOV. 16. The Kurnool MP, Kotla Suryaprakasa Reddy, has said the modernisation project of Tungabhadra Low Level Canal (LLC) was presented to the Union Government for funding. He said the Prime Minister's office responded positively. Mr. Reddy said the canal was modernised in AP area but the stretch remained untouched in Karnataka. Unless the canal was improved in the upper reaches of Karnataka, the tail-end areas in Andhra Pradesh would suffer. The canal irrigates Adoni, Yemmiganur, parts of Pathikonda and Kodumur in Kurnool district. As against the allotted quota of 700 cusecs at AP border, between 500 and 600 cusecs was delivered at the border because of excessive use in the upper regions. The modernisation of the canal would help check wastage of water and ensure proper flow to the tail-end areas. The distribution within the AP also was not proper. On Tuesday, 50 cusecs was delivered to Kodumur division while the flow at Adoni division was 548 cusecs. Mr. Suryaprakasa Reddy said he was pursuing with the Union Rural Development Department for comprehensive drinking water project for Krishnagiri and Dhone costing Rs 60 crores. The project would draw water from the Tungabhadra at Sunkesula and Gajuladinne project and pump into the reservoir at Krishnapuram. From there water would be supplied to 60 habitations in Kodumur, Devanakonda, Krishnagiri and Dhone covering the most problematic villages in the district.
