THANJAVUR, NOV. 16. Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Viswa Hindu Parishad and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh staged a demonstration in front of the Panagal building here today, condemning the arrest of Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal, Shankaracharya of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, in a murder case. They alleged that the arrest was politically motivated. M.S. Ramalingam, Pattu Kandasamy, Rajkumar and J. Sivakumar of the BJP and V. Panchapakesan of the Shankara Bhakatha Sabha took part in the agitation.
Pudukottai
Members of the All India Youth Federation (AIYF) and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) staged a demonstration near the Aranthangi bus stand, supporting the arrest.
