NEW DELHI, NOV. 16. Irina Brar shot a blistering five-under par 67, setting a course record in the process, to top the leaderboard on the opening day of the 37th Ladies Northern India golf championship at the Delhi Golf Club here on Tuesday. Irina was in splendid form, carding three birdies on the way out and clinching two more on the way in. She hit 16 greens in regulation. She would be looking out for a better score tomorrow, the Chandigarh youngster said. Of the record 31 entries in the championship, two players brought in sub-pars, with Anjali Chopra recording a one-under. Parnita Garewal was on 73 while nine others broke 80. India's No. 1 junior, Noida's 13-year-old Vaishavi Sinha, the No. 1 on the IGULS Merit list, Shruti Khanna, and Neha Majithia shot 75. Mayali Talwar and junior Diviya Kapur were on 76. Neha also won "nearest to the pin" prize for the day. Irina leads in the Jahanara Challenge Trophy, open to all handicaps, with a nett 67 one shot ahead of Neha Majithia on nett 69 with Anjali Chopra on nett 69. In the SIEL junior girls trophy championship, open to 18 and under, Vaishavi Sinha leads with her gross 75 with Delhi's Diviya Kapoor at 76.
