Azad hopeful of smooth session
By Our Special Correspondent PTI
NEW DELHI,
NOV. 16.
The Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, today said he was hopeful of a smooth conduct of the coming winter session of Parliament as the Opposition has "realised" that disrupting proceedings would not pay them any dividend.
"I am hopeful the winter session will pass off peacefully as Opposition parties have realised that paralysing the business has not given them any benefit. Maharashtra and Arunachal Pradesh are examples of this," he said.
"We have got the requisite order from the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, for convening it [winter session]," Mr. Azad told reporters here during a Id-Deepavali party hosted by him.
To a question on NDA criticising the UPA Government for calling a short session, he said "this session will be followed by the Budget session which will last a couple of months."
The party was attended by the Vice-President, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, the Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, and other Cabinet Ministers.
The former Rajasthan Governor, Madan Lal Khurana, the former Union Minister, Sahib Singh Verma, and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader, Shibu Soren, were also present.
