MANGALORE, NOV. 16. The police raided two places here since Monday and arrested 10 people on charges of immoral trafficking. B.S. Lokesh Kumar, Additional Superintendent of Police, said that while five were arrested on charges of prostitution during a raid on a hotel on Monday, five more were arrested on Tuesday. Sampath Kumari, police inspector, with the help of the District Crime Investigation Bureau staff, raided a hotel on the Circuit House premises on Tuesday. The police seized a car and an autorickshaw in this connection. On Monday, the police raided a hotel at Kankanady and arrested five persons. A man was said to have escaped as the hotel staff allegedly alerted him about the raid.
Killed in accident
A man was killed when he fell off the motorcycle he was riding after it skidded on hitting a scooter near Pandasale in Bajpe Police Station limits on Monday. The police said the victim, Yogish Poojary, of Vamanjoor was returning home after dropping a friend at Gurupur. Yogish, who was injured, died on the way to the hospital.
Suicide
A woman reportedly killed her three-year-old daughter and then committed suicide at Madyampady in Bettampady village under Puttur Rural Police Station limits. The police said that Bharathi (26), wife of Ashok Rai, reportedly threw the child, Sowjanya, into a tank and later jumped into the tank last night. The bodies were found this morning. The police said alleged harassment by her husband and her father-in-law, Hukrappa Rai, over domestic matters prompted Bharathi to end her life. A case has been booked against Mr. Rai and his father, police stated.
Arrested
The Suratkal police investigating a theft reported from a garage near Mukka check-post on November 12 arrested four persons on Monday. The names of the arrested were given as Mustaffa, alias Mohideen, of Mukka; Yasin, alias Mohammed Yasin; Ibba, alias Mohammed Abbas; and Abdul Saleem, all from Bengre. The police recovered items stolen from the garage and seized a van used to transport it.
