By Our Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM, NOV. 16. "Yasser Arafat was a symbol of struggle against the disguised global imperialism that is being practised by the US and Israel and not just a mere leader of oppressed Palestinians," said the director of Academic Staff College in Andhra University, K.S. Chalam, at a condolence meet organised by the All-India Peace and Solidarity Organisation (AIPSO) here on Tuesday.

Paying homage to the Palestinian leader he said the struggle for a free Palestinian State with Jerusalem as the capital would not cease with the demise of Arafat but would gain momentum. He cited the present scenario in Fallujah and Mosul in Iraq.

"The American forces thought they had won the war by defeating Saddam's forces and capturing him alive. But the raging battle in the streets of Iraq showcase the defiance of Iraqis and the mess America is in today," he said.

The former MLA of Vijayawada and the State secretary of AIPSO, K. Subbaraju, said, "Initially leaders of the West branded Arafat as a terrorist.
