VISAKHAPATNAM, NOV. 16. The Beach Road in Visakhapatnam is an aesthetic landmark. From time to time several beautification measures are being taken up.

For visitors to the city, the tour is incomplete without a dekko at the Beach Road which has several attractions. For regular walkers and joggers, too, the road is a path they will never get tired of.

But the aesthetic look is suffering from eyesores. For instance, the railings at the statues of prominent personalities set up along the road are broken.

At the statues of R.S.R.K. Ranga Rao (Bobbili Raja), Zakir Husain, N.G. Ranga, Kodi Rama Murthy and Adavi Bapiraju, one can see the railings removed.

Hardly any greenery

At some places the railing has disappeared for an entire stretch and even the blocks connecting them are broken. There is hardly any greenery in the parks which wear a withered look.

The pilfered railings are a source of income to petty thieves who are wrenching them off and selling, sometimes as scrap. The cast iron railings are costly and fetch good amount.

A police complaint has been lodged, it is learnt. While small repairs to the walls do not cost much, the railings are expensive. But they are likely to be in place by the time of Visakha Utsav.

A permanent solution is expected to be found to the greenery problem, once the Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation's plan to provide a permanent source from the Sewerage Treatment Plant for recycling the drain water is implemented.
