Drop in humidity

The Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 31.9 degree Celsius and a minimum of 21.5 degree Celsius on Tuesday. Humidity, which was 93 per cent in the morning, dropped to 82 per cent in the evening.

Commodity prices

The following are the prices (in rupees per kg) of the essential commodities in the local wholesale markets, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry: groundnut oil - Rs. 54, palmolein oil - Rs. 41.75, sunflower oil - Rs. 52.50, tamarind (flower variety) - Rs. 33 to 39, tamarind (karipuli variety) - Rs. 48 to 54, chillies (AC) - Rs. 23 to 28, chillies (non-AC) - Rs. 14 to 18, rice (2716) - Rs. 12, rice superfine (samba masoori) - Rs. 13 to 14, rice (sona masoori) - Rs. 15 to 16, black gram - Rs. 22 and red gram - Rs. 25 to 31.

Selected for interviews

Eleven final year engineering students of Velagapudi Ramakrishna Siddhartha Engineering College have been provisionally selected by the preliminary selection board for university entry scheme of (SSC - Tech officers) Indian Navy.

In the intimation sent to the college principal, the Command Recruitment Officer said that the students selected in the campus interviews will be issued call letters for Service Selection Board interviews by the integrated headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy) based on all India merit.

Awareness workshop

The Jana Shikshan Sansthan will organise a one-day awareness workshop on Jute Diversified Products in collaboration with the Jute Service Centre of Srikakulam at Hotel Ilapuram on Wednesday. The workshop is aimed at educating people about the growing demand for diversified jute products which are being utilised in the manufacture of different kinds of mats, rope bags, pen stands and other products.

The workshop is open for all and the participants can also register their names for taking a month-long free training course in manufacture of jute products.

Student's distinction

Kasukurti Lavanya, a student of Samvida Vidya Peeth, was awarded a merit certificate by the Central Board for Secondary Education for her outstanding performance in the All-India Secondary School Examination 2004.

Ms. Lavanya secured 98 per cent in Telugu and stood top at the national level.
