Temperature

TIRUCHI, NOV.16. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 30.6 degree Celsius and a minimum of 22.9 degree Celsius.

Demonstration

A group of people today staged a demonstration at Thottiyam demanding the release of Kanchi Sankaracharya Sri Jayendra Saraswathi who has been arrested in connection with a murder case.

Police sources here said around 85 persons including three women took part in the demonstration.

Arrest hailed

The Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam congratulated the Police Department for arresting the Kanchi seer, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal.

In a statement, its district president, S.T. Rajendran, thanked the Chief Minister for facilitating an impartial investigation into the charges of murder against the Swamigal.

Plea to repair roads

The Tiruchi Intellectual Forum has urged the Corporation to repair the roads which have been battered by the rain.

In a statement, its secretary, G. Renganathan, asked the civic body to ensure that sewage water did not mix with drinking water. At a recent meeting, several resolutions, including a plea for subways near the Central Bus Stand and Main Guard Gate, which had heavy traffic, were adopted.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur dam stood at 100.25 feet today. The inflow was 8,377 cusecs and the discharge 100 cusecs.
