Connectivity snaps, eSeva services hit

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, NOV. 16. Transactions in all eSeva centres in the twin cities and surrounding municipalities came to a grinding halt for two hours following a server breakdown on Tuesday.

The link between the main database of various departments and the centres snapped around 8.45 a.m. affecting services in 46 eSeva centres in the twin cities.

Officials managed to restore the link in the main centre at Khairatabad and by afternoon in other centres.

Heavy rush at centres

The centres witnessed a heavy rush as offices re-opened after a five-day recess on account of Deepavali and Ramzan. This is the first time that a major breakdown has affected the eSeva services. There are as many as 400 service counters in the 46 centres.

"System maintenance works were completed on Monday night. However, we lost connectivity with the main database in the morning leading to disruption in the services," the Deputy Director (Technical), eSeva, Bireshwar Das, told The Hindu. The maintenance works were carried out during holidays to avoid inconvenience to users.

While only 104 transactions were registered when the system broke down, the number rose drastically following restoration. In all, 35,126 transactions were carried out till 5 p.m. "I thought the rush was because of holidays. I have to come back in the evening after finishing my work," said Ch. Manohar at the Hari Hara Kala Bhavan centre.

At Khairatabad there was a long queue of people waiting for their turn. eSeva is a fully computerised service enabling one to pay utility bills, file applications and register complaints pertaining to various civic services and is dubbed `one-stop shop' for 66 G2C and B2C services.
