HYDERABAD, NOV 17. The Government has sought an explanation from Anjana Sinha, DIG (Women Protection Cell), for allegedly retaining a revolver and a pistol which she had seized some time ago in the city when she was the Cyberabad's Deputy Commissioner from a rowdy-sheeter reportedly connected to the Telugu Desam MLA, Paritala Ravi. The Home Minister, K. Jana Reddy, told reporters here on Wednesday that the Government would take action against her based on the findings of the inquiry and upon her own explanation. Our Anantapur Staff Reporter adds: The seizure has sent shockwaves among police circles here. Ms. Sinha's tenure as the Superintendent of Police from June 2000 to March 2003 was marred by controversies, mainly the allegations from the then Opposition Congress that she was acting in a partisan manner towards the then ruling TDP. The encounter killings during her tenure had also become controversial as a majority of those who were killed in the encounters belonged to Red Star, a pseudo-naxalite group working against Mr. Ravindra. Of the 18 killings in 11 encounters during her stewardship, eight belonged to the Red Star group and four to the People's War. The remaining belonged to several other splinter and pseudo-naxalite groups. An intelligence report was said to have raised several questions on the encounters and had even named a couple of DSPs, a few CIs and SIs who had worked under Ms. Sinha.
