Junior World inauguration today

KOCHI, NOV. 17. With a few teams arriving here on Wednesday, Kochi warmed up for the World junior boys and girls chess championship which begins here on Friday.

Kerala Sports Minister Dominic Presentation will inaugurate the championship at the Casino Hotel, Willingdon Island, tomorrow afternoon. But the first round action, which will feature 110 players from 35 countries, begins only the next day.

Players from Argentina, England, Norway, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Uzbekistan and China arrived here today. The Indians, including Grandmasters P.Harikrishna, Koneru Humpy and the under-14 girls World champion Dronavalli Harika, are expected to land tomorrow for the 13-round championship.

"There will be a live display at the venue and the games will be covered live on the internet," said the championship's organising secretary P.T.Ummer .

Casto P.Abundo, the FIDE Rating Administrator, will be the chief arbiter for the event which concludes on November 30. — Our Principal Correspondent
