NEW DELHI, NOV. 17. Indian Airlines received a rare drubbing on Wednesday. With several of its players away in the National camp in Chandigarh, Airlines had to fall back on some of its veterans as it took on the Border Security Force in the first super league match of the Nehru hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium. The 6-3 margin that BSF ended up with, riding on a hat-trick by Habil Topno, was staggering, notwithstanding the depleted Airlines line-up. South Central Railway, Secunderabad, and Namdhari XI earlier qualified for the super league with identical 4-3 victories in the tie-breaker over Army XI and Western Railway respectively after 2-2 draws in regulation time. Army XI took the lead in the 31st minute against South Central Railway through Suresh Kumar. Goals by S. Dung Dung and Amit Shrivas put the Secunderabad team ahead by the 48th minute. But within seven minutes, Army equalised through D. Mahadik. In the tie-breaker, A. Bharathi, Johnson Ekka, Prabhakar Singh and Amrit Shrivas scored for the Railway team but Shyam Cariappa missed. For Army, Avtar Singh, Suresh Kumar and M. S. Murum were the scorers. Harpreet and Jagjit Singh failed.
