Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to the NHRC's order to the Punjab Government to compensate the families of persons whose relatives went missing during the insurgency. Given the rise in the number of extra-judicial killings by the state over the years in the name of fighting terrorism, it is important to ensure that the direction is publicised and implemented. The immunity enjoyed by the police in cases of encounter killing goes against the fundamental right to life and liberty.
