CAIRO (EGYPT), NOV. 18. Egypt has condemned Israel's shooting dead of three Egyptian paramilitary policemen on the border with Gaza early on Thursday. A statement issued by the Foreign Minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, indicated that Egypt was not placated by the Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon's phone call apology to the President, Hosni Mubarak, hours after the killing. ``Egypt condemns and strongly protests this regrettable incident. We demand that the Israeli authorities conduct an immediate, thorough and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances that led to this incident, and present an explanation,'' Mr. Gheit said in a statement. The Israeli army says that its soldiers spotted Palestinian militants planting a bomb along the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt. The soldiers ordered a tank to fire at the militants, but it mistakenly fired at the Egyptian paramilitary policemen. Both the Israeli Government and army have apologised for the shooting.
